Bio:

Vazari is focused on collaborative approaches to movement based projects. Creating new contemporary dance work, as well as producing events and building partnerships with other artists, communities, or industries.
We view dance as a social act to ignite empathy and curiosity. We see the performer as an essential vessel for understanding one another by inviting us to delve into the mystery of a stranger. Our work explores connectivity and resilience through the moving body. We aim to create opportunities for audiences and artists to encounter and enrich each other through a collision of ideas and practices; fostering a fertile ground for innovative concepts through open communication.

Since our inception in 2014 we have created five original dance works. We have participated in the SummerWorks Performance Festival and the Annual Alberta Dance Festival. Our work has been shown as part of DanceMatters and FreshBlood in Toronto and as part of the 2018 season at Tangente Danse in Montréal. We have presented a mix of site-specific and theatre pieces across the country from public parks in Edmonton, and Kensington Market in Toronto to the Pumphouse Theatre in Calgary, The Theatre Centre in Toronto, and Édifice Wilder Espace Danse in Montréal. Currently we are preparing to premiere our first dance film in collaboration with director Adrian Assoufi, a film adaptation of our theatrical duet entitled Decoherence.

Partnerships in the community have always been vital to us. For the past five years, we have produced an annual cabaret-style variety show and season fundraiser entitled, PLUNGE. Through this event we have met countless diverse local artists, gained valuable production experience and become more self sustainable as a company. In 2019, we also hosted a gallery and live music event that raised money and awareness for the shelter and resource base Women’s Habitat. We also continue to co-produce A home for [_ _ _ _], a fusion of house party and gallery event that takes over a house in Toronto and fills it with a multitude of curated visual art and performance.
