Ontario’s draft Culture Strategy was released for public comment and consultation.  The strategy identifies three goals:

  • Strengthen Culture in Communities, with a focus on strengthening community-based arts, culture and heritage.
  • Fuel the Creative Economy, with a focus on maximizing the contributions of culture and creativity to a strong and competitive knowledge economy.
  • Promote Cultural Engagement and Inclusion, with the focus being on removing barriers and increasing opportunities for cultural participation.

The draft indicates that the development of an Arts Policy Framework, an element of the 2014 Minister’s mandate letter, will be part of the implementation of Strategy.

There is no discussion of resources other than statements such as “more targeted funding.”

The deadline for commenting on the draft Culture Strategy is 13 May 2016.
