The Metcalf Foundation is undertaking a significant survey as part of our response to Jane Marsland’s Innovation Fellowship paper, Shared Platforms and Charitable Venture Organizations, Independent consultant Daniel Bernhard has created this survey to determine the possible market for an independent organization that would serve the arts sector in Canada as a shared platform – a legal and administrative home that could save emerging companies from having to incorporate as independent charities with their own administrative staff and Board of Directors. We are hoping that this will be a wide-reaching national survey of the sector with as broad a response as possible from independent artists and small organizations across the country working in diverse artistic practices including the literary, media, performing, and visual arts.

Because of our position as a foundation, however, our mailing list is primarily established charitable organizations, and I am hoping that you can help us reach a wider audience, particularly emerging companies and independent artists and/or people in artistic fields beyond the performing arts. Please circulate this survey as widely as possible to your networks, and encourage the members of the ASO Learning Network to do so as well. Help Metcalf determine the viability of a large shared platform for the arts in Canada.
