A FEW WORDS ON THE INITIATIVE
2019-2020 will mark the first year of a three years initiative that will culminate with the creation of a Toronto Dance Showcase event in YEAR 3 (2021-2022), bringing a delegation of International presenters to Toronto to witness the talent we foster in this city. Our goal with this initiative is very much long term, wanting to address a number of important challenges that the Toronto Dance Community has been faced with for a number of years.
Our vision is to build access to International presenters for Toronto choreographers, and continue to develop the Toronto Dance Scene is a healthy manner, with fair and transparent processes.
In YEAR 1, sixteen Toronto artists will be chosen to attend four separate international showcases. While being able to promote their own work during these showcases, the sixteen chosen artists will also be given the task of talking to international presenters about Toronto overall, and about the dance artists, companies and activities that are active here, in the city. Our goals are:
- to make Toronto a destination for national and international presenters;
This three-year project is endorsed by Choreographers' Network - Toronto (CN-T), a Network of over 150 Toronto choreographers incepted by Denise Fujiwara in 2017. In consultation with CN-T artists - more specifically with the CN-T Presenting Working Group (Denise Fujiwara, Jane-Alison McKinney, Kevin Ormsby, and Gerry Trentham) - and lead by Dusk Dances’ Festival Director Sylvie Bouchard, this initiative’s desire is to strengthen the Toronto dance community as a whole and to foster its impact on the international scene.
* This initiative is dependent on funding.
