CONTRACT POSITION – DANCE OUTREACH COORDINATOR
Ontario Dances seeks to have more live dance performances in Ontario communities and more people engaged, interested and invested in dance at a local level in our province. This program aims to increase the range and diversity of dance available to communities in Ontario outside of Toronto. From dance classes and workshops to the presentation of dance work from leading Ontario-based professional choreographers, Ontario Dances will offer the public and professionals alike the opportunity to participate in dance at all levels. Ontario Dances aims to support excellence, regional activity, linguistic and cultural diversity and Aboriginal and Franco-Ontarian identity.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting directly to the Education & Outreach Manager, the Dance Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing the public’s awareness, appreciation and participation in dance through The Burlington Performing Arts Centre’s Ontario Dances arts education / learning programs. This position will develop relationships and work with the dance community, schools / educational community as well as the general community at large to promote The Centre’s dance programming and community outreach events. This position also develops workshops, gathers statistics, writes reports and makes dance presentations to schools and organizations.
PROFILE:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in dance, the performing arts and arts administration. Ideally, she/he will have experience working in a performing arts environment and will have knowledge of the Ontario dance landscape and arts education. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and administration skills, along with computer skills including database management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have, or be working towards, a certification or degree in dance. Experience in outreach programs for young audiences would be an asset. The candidate must have relationships within the local dance community and should have experience working in arts administration. Excellent writing and communication skills are essential. Must be able to work independently and without supervision, as this position works off-site for the majority of the time.
HOURS OF WORK:
This position is a one year contract position. Hours of work are flexible and dependant upon dance activity at The Centre, averaging approximately 25-30 hours per month over 8 months (May through August is typically quiet).
SALARY: $5K for a one-year contract to be paid in 8 installments of $625, Jan-Apr and Sept-Dec.
This position is funded by the Ontario Arts Council’s Ontario Dances program.
