The National Ballet of Canada: Dance Instructors

The National Ballet of Canada, Canada's premiere ballet company and one of the world's top international dance companies, will be introducing a new, exciting program in the fall of 2013. This program will offer the Toronto community the opportunity to take a variety of dance and fitness classes in Toronto's finest studios, surrounded by Toronto's finest dancers. Classes will be offered to adults, ages 18 and up, and adolescents, ages 14-18.

Reporting to the School Director, The National Ballet of Canada is looking for highly experienced and professional dance instructors. Experience as a professional dancer is an asset but not a requirement.

We are looking for highly experienced teachers for the following classes: Classical Ballet, Classical Repertoire, Contemporary, and Jazz. Classes will be offered at beginner and basic levels, through to advanced levels.

Required skills:
Minimum 3 to 5 years of teaching experience
A strong following of students is a plus
Teaching accreditation or certificate is an asset
Highly self motivated
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
Experience working with students at a beginner and basic level is a requirement

Job Description:
The Karate Kids Instructor is responsible for the following tasks on a daily basis:
To uphold Karate Kids’ “Top Priorities”; namely, to make students feel important and acknowledged, to build strong moral character in students, and to build levels of physical fitness and focus in students.

To know and abide by Karate Kids’ Policies and Procedures Manual, as well as those policies and procedures not included in the manual but communicated by Karate Kids Head Office.
To review and be familiar with the Karate Kids lesson plan, prior to each class, and have the required class materials on hand.
To arrive at each assigned Karate Kids class location at least 20 minutes in advance of its commencement to briefly prepare for class.
To immediately inform the Operations Manager of any last minute cancellation of the Karate Kids class brought about by a school function or other event in the gymnasium.
To ensure that the Karate Kids class starts on time, that each segment starts on time, and that the Karate Instructor keeps time properly.
To assist the Karate Instructor to teach the Karate and Physical Fitness segments of class.
To lead (or assist the Karate Instructor) to teach the Character Education and Games segments of class.
To ensure that the Karate Kids Teaching Techniques are employed in every class.
To provide a positive example to Karate Kids students by being courteous, demonstrating a positive attitude, and embodying physical fitness.
To note any concerns or complaints shared by the school or a parent (who might be at the school) and report them to their Territory Manager immediately.
To note any school events (eg. Spring Open House, BBQ) that Karate Kids might contribute to, by donating prizes or arranging demonstrations, and report them to the Operations Manager that day. To fill out the Class Tracking Sheet and email an attendance report to their Territory Manager at the end of each class.

Weekly Basis:
To advise their Territory Manager of any requirements for gear bag contents or class materials by Wednesday of each week.
To provide their Territory Manager with all completed Class Tracking Sheets for the previous week. :

Job Requirements:
To study and learn the Karate Kids Policies and Procedures Manual (materials provided).
To pass written and verbal certification tests based on Karate Kids training and the contents of the Karate Kids Policies and Procedures Manual, prior to commencement of employment and each summer.
To attend periodic Karate Kids training sessions.
To obtain, at your own cost, a clean and valid criminal record check issued within 6 months of commencement of employment and each summer.
To obtain, at your own cost, black athletic pants, non-marking athletic shoes, and a high collared white t-shirt.

Salary or Hourly Wage:
Minimum $35 per class; opportunity to make apx. $700 per month teaching 5 times per week.

Hours of Work:
Work corresponds with the school year.
Monday to Friday, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes per day.
Hours of work include travel time to and from the assigned school, class preparation time, class time and reporting time.
Total hours depend on number of assigned Karate Kids classes.

Well established and expanding dance studio in Aurora looking for a full time dance teacher in all discliplines. Preferred extensive experience teaching tap, hip hop, acrobatics and jazz.

Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre

The Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre is currently seeking a highly motivated and organized individual with experience working with young and/or professional dancers to act as rehearsal director/ workshop facilitator and teacher for the company’s eleven month season from September 2012 to July 2013. CCDT is a modern dance repertory company which presents gifted young artists in professional productions, hailed by Toronto’s Globe and Mail as “a national treasure”. The position involves approximately 20-25 hours weekly, with additional hours when in the theatre or on tour.

-Structuring rehearsal time including remounting repertoire, cleaning and maintaining work, giving notes to dancers
