Call to Artists - Series 8:08
NEW CRITERIA AND INFORMATION
What is the Choreographic Performance Workshop?
Our Choreographic Performance Workshop (CPW) is a unique environment and platform that supports choreographic enquiry. We provide a forum where as a choreographer you can practice your creativity and research; and where choreographic works-in-progress can be discussed, explored and experienced. Series 8:08 also provides a venue for sharing practice, discussion and reflection.
We provide a supportive environment from which you can directly connect with your audience and them with you.
Within the CPW program is TAKE TWO. It is an opportunity to show your work-in-progress a second time after a short period of reflection. This 2011/12 season we are thrilled to introduce and offer two residencies, in partnership with Hub 14, for selected TAKE TWO artists. These residencies will provide the two selected participants with time and space at Hub 14, to further research their artistic processes.
Series 8:08 is interested in furthering the development of dance by facilitating an investigation of creative processes. This includes feedback and responses from our audiences. Series 8:08 is not only interested in fostering creative development of choreographers, but also in how audience members respond and identify with dance they see. The TAKE TWO program will enrich their experience as they gain greater insight into the processes and products of different artists.
What we provide:
* We provide participating choreographers with a performance venue, stage manager, technicians, general publicity, a fee to help cover the costs of performing, a DVD of the performance, written comments from the audience members and informal discussions after each show.
* Choreographers are welcome to participate in Series 8:08's Resident Outside Eye (ROE) program, an opportunity for all CPW choreographers to receive a more in-depth written response from an established dance artist on their works-in-progress. Our ROE's for the 2011/12 season are Sylvie Bouchard, Susie Burpee, Susan Cash, Heidi Strauss and TBA.
* Payment policy for CPW Choreographers: The choreographers are guaranteed $125 each. Any box office revenue over the amounts paid to the choreographers is split between the choreographers.
Season dates and location for 2011/12
26th November, 28th January
25th February, 31st March, 28th April
TAKE TWO is an extension of the regular CPW series. (Pilot Program)
Choreographers wishing to show their work-in-progress at a regular CPW will also have an opportunity to apply to show a further iteration of their work in the following month. There are four (4) TAKE TWO slots. The TAKE TWO program also includes two small RESIDENCIES in partnership with HUB 14.
The selected choreographers will then present their work-in-progress again in our TAKE TWO platform.
Series 8:08 is initiating this program to:
· Offer choreographers and performers the opportunity to be informed from the initial performance experience and feedback from a regular CPW, and to identify how this feedback supports their work and creative process.
· Support interested choreographers to continue to develop their work in a residency (in partnership with Hub 14), while considering the feedback from the audience and ROE.
· Offer choreographers a second opportunity to show their work-in-progress at a more developed stage, in order to help artists receive more in-depth feedback.
Interested choreographers must apply to a regular CPW for either October or January and send in a second application to Take Two and must be available to present again in November or February.
Limited space is available and TAKE TWO is a first come first serve platform. There are only two (2) RESIDENCY slots available. TAKE TWO residencies require an additional application to be completed.
Season dates and location for 2011/12
TAKE TWO: November 26th 2011 & February 25th 2012
Choreographers must first present prior to October 29th or January 28th
