A FANTASTIC WORKOUT & A GREAT STRESS RELIEVER!
Tired of backaches, sore shoulders, general stiffness! Put that spring back into your step!
prevents injury; improves alignment, balance, posture, flexibility, co-ordination, and circulation; tones and elongates; develops core strength; engages the body and mind, increasing one’s powers of concentration.
Our approach to dance education is unique!
The Ballet Espressivo School, founded in 2006, offers courses in classical ballet, modern dance, dance improvisation, ballet floor-barre (stretching and strengthening), and our latest addition – performance opportunities for its students, led by its instructor Donna Greenberg, who has over twenty-five years of teaching experience, and a background in both music and a variety of dance-styles. Throughout the lessons, thorough and constructive feedback is given, feedback needed for students to progress, to avoid injuries, and to prevent the development of bad habits. The student-teacher ratio is kept low in order to maximize time for addressing individual student needs. Much emphasis is placed on not only correctness of form but also musicality, line, and artistry. The courses are designed for adults, for those seeking recreation, or wishing to improve bodily alignment and overall physical condition, or those aspiring to a more serious study of dance. The Ballet Espressivo School has an international reputation, attracting students from Toronto and its environs and even abroad.

Students will be guided through a systematic and thorough approach to stretching and strengthening including extensive wall work. Through this ballet floor barre, students will gain greater knowledge of core support and control while studying classical ballet technique i.e. how to work efficiently, according to the laws of the body, as well receiving plenty of individualized attention. An excellent preparation and/or complement to our regular ballet classes as well all other forms of dance, sports and physical activities.

Contemporary Dance & Improvisation
No previous dance experience is needed! An eclectic approach to contemporary dance.
Our approach to Contemporary Dance is to instruct the student in a freer and less structured type of dance that focuses on movement from the torso, an expanded movement vocabulary, and individual expression. All classes include barre work, centre work, and the learning of short choreographic pieces designed to get the student moving fluidly, confidently, and musically, as well as a short section of dance improvisation to allow students to explore, experiment, and create movements based on what they have learned during the lesson. This is a fun way for the students to liberate themselves as dancers and develop personal expression with a strong emphasis on musicality.
Contemporary Dance & Improvisation is now a mixed level class open to both absolute beginners through to more advanced students. Technical levels will be adjusted to suit the level of the individual student. This is a great opportunity for students to learn from each other.
Friday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. July 6 – August 31, 2018- 9 classes for $ 172.89 (HST included)
Summer 2018 Special Class: “Let’s Make a Dance!”
Back by popular demand, in this course students will learn how a dance is put together, how one goes about learning it, and how it should be interpreted. Students will learn a short dance and be able to perform it artistically by the end of the session. The performance will be in-class, to the teacher, not an outside audience. Highly recommended for students who shy away from public performance. Ballet Espressivo students at all levels are welcome: the choreography will be created according to level of proficiency. Corequisite: Students must be enrolled in at least one other regular class at the same time.
Wednesday evenings from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. July 4 – August 29, 2018- 9 classes for $ 142.38 (HST included)
Individual Coaching/Personal Training
Individual instruction is available for individuals who are unable to attend scheduled classes or who simply prefer exclusive private sessions. Available as well are “trouble-shooting” consultations for the professional dancer wishing to target problem areas, stand-out at auditions, or develop uniqueness and artistry. Private classes are arranged on an individual basis at a mutually agreeable time.
Instructor: Donna Greenberg: Teacher, choreographer, dance filmmaker, singer/songwriter/composer and artistic director of Ballet Espressivo, has been teaching for over twenty-five years. Benefit from her vast knowledge of techniques, rich musical and performance background and artistic flair.
All students must pre-register to ensure a place in the class. Our courses are very popular and are kept small, providing much individual attention, and so early registration is encouraged. There are no drop-in classes.
