2019 Creation Residencies at Toronto Dance Theatre

Toronto Dance Theatre invites proposals from Toronto-based dance artists wishing to pursue a short Creation Residency at the Winchester St. Theatre, Toronto. The residency is open to professional artists working in any movement form.

The theatre will be made available to successful applicants, free of charge, for the purpose of creative rehearsals during the weeks of June 17-21 and June 24-28, 2019 (full schedule below). This is a great opportunity to research and create work in a large, bright theatre space.

Shawn Hounsell Master Workshop Kingston

SHAWN HOUNSELL CHOREOGRAPHER / ARTIST Originally from Saskatchewan, Canadian choreographer Shawn Hounsell danced professionally with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal between 1989 and 2003. An award winning choreographer, Shawn has created and staged pieces for numerous Canadian companies including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens de Montréal, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Ballet British Columbia, Ballet Kelowna, Les Jeunes Ballets du Québec and Festival Dance Company.

Kaeja 2018 Intensive

During this week-long dance intensive, current investigations by each of the Kaeja’s will be excavated and shared. Participants will also collaborate in building a scored work with Karen and Allen Kaeja, devising ensemble physical engagement and harnessing personal material through kinetic partnering, sensorial and theatrical investigations.

Workshop Series with special focus on various age groups

Brain Dance Movement Workshops feature a movement technique that is shown to reorganize the neurological system; increase blood and oxygen flow to the respiratory system and brain; enhance core support, connectivity and alignment; and deepen your understanding of the elements of dance technique.  It is also effective in calming behavioural upsets in the classroom.
