Registration: kathleenrea@rogers.com and brad.johnston.coaching@gmail.com
Please send all emails to both Kathleen and Brad as they are coordinating registration together
What the workshop series will be:
Explore your relationship with your partner through contact dance improvisation. Contact dance improvisation is a social dance involving touch, in which momentum between two or more people is used to create and inspire dance movements. The dance form is practiced with or without music. Techniques include rolling point of contact, balancing over a partner’s centre of gravity, following momentum, and “listening” with one’s skin surface. Contact dance improvisation is accessible to people with no previous dance training and to people with physical disabilities.

Discover and play with how contact dance improvisation practices can act as metaphors for relationship dynamics and patterns. Learn how non-verbal communication through dance can open up a moving and beautiful “world” that couples can create and share.

What it is not Relationship in Movement Pilot Workshop is not group couples counseling or group couples therapy. Although your personal relationship issues are welcome to arise, facilitators will not be analyzing these issues or offering solution-based counseling in the way a couples counselor/therapist might. Couples in crisis are welcome to attend the pilot only if they are regularly attending couples counseling or therapy. (i.e. the workshop would be an adjunct to couples counseling or therapy they are receiving).

This is not a workshop in which you will explore sensual or sexual touch. The touch in the workshop will involve appropriate touch for public situations.
What you will do:
- learn contact dance improvisation techniques (at a very accessible level to all who attend)
- practice these techniques with your partner
- discuss, with your partner and with the group (as much as you want to share), relationship issues that arise through dancing
- dance with your partner and sometimes together as a group
- learn specific exercises designed to explore relationship themes that tend to arise between couples.

Please note: as facilitators, Brad and Kathleen will sometimes demonstrate contact dance movement with you to help you and your partner understand an exercise.

Meet the facilitators:
